Now several months into a process to define our 2-3 year strategic plan, the focus is beginning to take shape. The planning team has traveled all over the northeast, visiting other community and educational farms and meeting with other staff, boards of directors and volunteers to decide what may work on Pitney Meadows Community Farm.
The Pitney Meadows 2018 Fire Feast on the Farm planning is in full swing! We’re excited for another amazing event with internationally renowned chefs who are closely associated with specific farms and farming, top local chefs and world class bartenders.
A few weeks into our fundraising initiative with Clynk and we already have money coming in! Thanks to all who have starting filling the green bags with bottles/cans and dropping them off at Hannaford to benefit Pitney Meadows.
The Board of Directors of Pitney Meadows Community Farm created an Agricultural Advisory Committee recently to guide the organization in best uses and execution of agriculture projects and goals that will be the agricultural model for PMCF and for agricultural education.
Spring is coming and registration has begun for plots in the Pitney Meadows Community Gardens, Gardeners are invited to apply for beds in 3 different sizes, ranging from a 4x8 raised bed to inground plots as large as 11 x 19. The number of existing beds is limited but could be expanded if there is strong interest. Gardeners in good standing may keep their plots from year to year.
Pitney Meadows volunteer Tom Garrett hopes you'll adopt a new way to recycle bottles and cans that enables you to simply throw your redeemable cans and bottles into a bag and drop them off at nearby Hannaford. For every 100 families that join the effort and donate their deposits to Pitney Meadows, the farm could reap as much as $7,000 annually from Clynk, one of the fastest-growing bottle redemption services in the country.
The spring planting season in Saratoga Springs won’t begin until April or May, but volunteers already are preparing for the second year at Pitney Meadows Community Farm. Set for Saturday, February 10 from noon to 8 p.m. at Artisanal Brew Works, 41 Geyser Road, the Pitney Meadows Winter Social is an off-season opportunity to connect with volunteers who are driving the project and to learn what’s in store for 2018. A “Toast to Year Two” will be offered at 4 p.m.
